 Biography

Nicola Roberts is an English singer who is a member of chart-topping group Girls Aloud. She rose to fame in 2002 when she appeared on ITV talent competitionPop Stars: The Rivals, during which she won a place in the girl band, replacing Nicola Ward who quit the show last-minute. The girls’ first single Sound Of The Underground went into the UK Singles Charts at No.1, and subsequently became 2002′s Christmas No.1. They released their debut album of the same name the following year. It also reached No.1 on the UK Album Charts, and was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry.
Girls Aloud went on to release a further five studio albums, two live albums and two compilation albums. Out of their 21 singles, all but one reached the top ten, and 15 went into the top five.  In 2009, the band took an official hiatus while the girls pursued various solo projects. However, reports of a riff between the group started to surface when it was rumoured that Nadine Coyle snubbed the girls from her wedding and failed to contact Cheryl Cole while she suffered with Malaria. In 2008, Nicola Roberts created a make-up range for girls with fair skin called Dainty Doll.
In 2009, she took her quest to champion fair skin one step further, by making a documentary for BBC3 called Nicola Roberts: The Truth About Tanning. She has publically advocated legislation that would outlaw unmanned sunbeds and ban the use of sunbeds for minors. In 2010, it began to emerge that Nicola would be launching a solo career and that she had signed with Sony BMG, but details of her 2011 release are yet to be confirmed. Nicola has been dating Dubai-born Charlie Fennell since 2008
