How To Apply Eye Makeup

Applying eye makeup, however, can be a cinch if you:
  • Understand which colors are right for you.
  • Have an understanding of your eye shape.
  • Are aware of the look you are trying to achieve.

Understanding The Basics Tips

Choose colors that are right for you, this depends primarily on your skin’s  undertone and on your eye color.
  • Brown eyes look best in shades of espresso, bone and champagne.
  • Blue eyes pop in navy blue, dark brown and cream.
  • Green and hazel eyes look great in browns, greens and shades of taupe.
  • Grey eyes are smashing in black, grey, and a variety of blue shades.

Eye Shape

  • If you have wide eyes, you can rim both the upper and lower lids to make the eyes appear even wider.
  • Small or narrow eyes should not rim all the way around the eye, especially in the inner corners of the eye. Doing so only causes the narrow eye to appear smaller. Instead, only line, or color the outer half of the eye, while using an upward motion.

Different Looks

  • Daytime looks should be simple. Give definition to the eye, without overpowering it, with lots of liner and shadow. The key is to look polished.
  • Evening looks are the best time to try a dramatic eye. If you ever wanted to wear mascara, eye shadow, and liner all at once, this is the best time to do it.
  • For weekends, the key is to look accessible and comfortable. If that means black liquid liner, and red lips a la Gwen Stefani, then so be it. And if it means just a bit of boneeye shadow coupled with a softly smudged eye, then do that. The key is comfort; do what feels right.

 The Tools You’ll Need

  • Brow pencil or shadows.
